The tribal communities inhabiting the world here show us another side to the rich and opulent world of royal Udaipur. The Bhil community mainly resides in areas of Udaipur, Dungarpur and Chittorgarh; the Garasia community also are settled in Udaipur, Sirohi and Pali districts. The Meenas are the largest tribal group, spread over various regions in Rajasthan. The Aravalli Mountain range in Udaipur district is home to many rivers and has rich biodiversity; 43% of the area is under forest cover. The ancestors of the Bhils have been conserving and managing the forests based on their tribal customary law. The Bhils were known to be excellent archers. They are mostly small and marginal farmers but are also reliant on n the forest for their livelihood and other socio-cultural needs.
The rustic beauty and silences of this world is a wonderful foil to the urban spaces of the city, and a foray into tribal Udaipur can be a truly enchanting experience. Stepping into the quaint realm of a tribal village, connecting with the humble natives, relishing the pristine views, leaves one with plenty to contemplate.
