Alphonso

What’s In The Name?

So… is this a mango thing?

We get that a lot. And honestly, we love it

You know how sometimes an idea takes root without you even realizing it? For us, it started with that lovely instance of striking up a conversation with a popular samosa seller in Lucknow, watching an artisan hammering silver into a thin edible foil for mithai in Varanasi, sharing a hot meal of sarson ka saag and makki ki roti with a village headman one wintery afternoon in Punjab, and watching a boatman lazily glide his nauka on the Hoogly River past Howrah Bridge at sunset in Kolkata.

We kept thinking, Why does travel feel so frantic these days? On the face of it, perfectly packaged… yet strangely hollow? What we missed most were these in-between moments.

Just like the time when the neighbourhood sweeper told me his daughter was studying on a scholarship to be a doctor to serve her village.
Or that spontaneous invite to participate in a game of gully cricket with some kids in a quiet street in Jaipur, amidst a riot of laughter and catcalls at my terrible bowling.
And I thought, what if this could be the whole point of travel?

That’s how Alphonso Stories was born.

We named ourselves Alphonso Stories because the Alphonso mango, like the kind of journeys we are passionate about, reveals itself slowly. With richness. With layers. With memory.

Our Story

Six years ago, we set out on a journey. Not across airports and brochures, but across kitchens, courtyards, backlanes, street festivals, family-run farms, and unpaved mountain roads. We sat cross-legged in homes that weren’t ours, listened to stories told in half-smiles and full hearts, and felt the pulse of rhythm of life at its unfiltered best.

And we realized something.
The most meaningful journeys weren’t just about movement. They were about memory, emotion, and connection. They were about the care that goes into every story, and the stories that go into every place.

We travelled across India and beyond. Wandering through a bazaar where vendors were hawking kites for a festival in Ahmedabad, chatting with a painter by a crackling fire on a cold winter night in Shimla, and then pedalling along heritage-rich backstreets in Kathmandu, bowling along muddy, rain-drenched tea trails in Sri Lanka, and exploring remote valleys in Bhutan, not to cover distance, but to gather stories. Real ones. Of women brewing heirloom teas, of artisans whose craft knits times past and present, of festivals that still feel like whispers from the past.

So we started building experiences, not itineraries.
Across India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka.
Not the “5 countries in 7 days” kind.
But the kind where you meet the people who actually live there.
Where your plans can pause for a sunset or a second round of chai.
Where you don’t just see a place, you feel it.

Our journeys are sweet, layered, and take their time.
No rush. No pressure. Just slow, meaningful travel with a bit of sunshine in every bite.

Sharing. Listening. Connecting. All with stories scripted by communities, culture, cuisine, crafts, costumes, and much more. That’s the Alphonso Stories way.

That’s how Alphonso Stories took shape, not just as a travel company, but as a curated storybook of immersive journeys designed around people, deeply rooted in the everyday poetry of South Asia.

So, what do we actually do?

We curate thrilling travel experiences crafted with wit and humour across India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka.

No pre-set templates or formulas. No touristy runarounds. Just immersive journeys built around your pace, your mood, and your curiosity.

Choose Alphonso Stories for:

  • Real connection, with communities, not crowds.
  • Real joy, the kind that comes from ease, spontaneity, and being fully present in the moment.
  • Real magic, not orchestrated, just waiting to be noticed.
  • Real ease, we handle the planning, so you can show up and abandon yourself to what is, at that time, at that place.

And honestly? It’s been pure joy.
The kind that leaves you with sand in your shoes and stories you’ll still be telling your great-grand kids years later.

If you’ve ever longed for travel that feels human, curious, and kind, this is for you.

So no, Alphonso Stories isn’t about mangoes.
But it is about sweetness. And slowness.
And the kind of travel that fills you up in all the right ways.
