This early morning gentle hike takes one through swathes of sub-tropical forest, cultivated fields and the occasional village settlement. It’s a wonderful trek to enjoy Bhutan’s botanical wealth and natural surrounds and the vignettes of local village life in the morning hours. The beautiful Chorten Nyingpo monastery opens up a window to Bhutan’s spiritual roots and tales that enrich you with their telling of the doings of the temple monks.

  • Savour the morning splendour of Bhutan’s natural landscapes
  • Learn all about the intriguing Lama Drukpa Kuenley “The Divine Madman”
  • Savour the tranquil beauty of the beautiful Chorten Nyingpo.

We leave very early in the morning to catch the beauty of those gorgeous vistas in the morning light on this 2-3 hr hike. We will cross sparkling streams and forests still tending the morning dew and the scent of herbs and unseen shrubs. Past village houses surrounded by paddy fields awaiting the benediction of the morning sun we arrive at Chorten Nyingpo, where your guide shares the delightful narrative of Lama Drukpa Kuenley, “The Divine Madman”, said to be an enlightened Buddhist master and one of Bhutan’s most revered saints. You can see the tree which was said to have come to stand here after the master sent a thunderbolt from the nearby valley. A reviving cup of tea awaits you before you head back.
