Too much to do and too little time. It’s a common grouse amongst travellers who arrive at a city they really want to explore at leisure, but just don't have the time for the press of work and hectic schedules. On this tour, you get to see 25 (so 'Mumbai Pachees’) unmissable sites that should be part of your wish list.
For the 25 unmissable star points of the cityFor a memorable whirlwind tour of one of the world’s most lively and exciting commercial capitalsFor the history, heritage and cultural marvels of a great harbour city
The tour starts from the Gateway of India, the victory arch built to commemorate the landing of British King George V and Queen Mary for the Delhi Durbar in 1911. Exploring the Fort area we arrive at Kala Ghoda (literally Black Horse) which is the city’s premier art district. Keep your eyes peeled on the drive for landmarks sites such as heritage buildings, museums, art galleries and educational institutions. This is where you’ll find Jehangir Art Gallery, National Gallery of Modern Art, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya and The Arts Trust.
Up next is an encounter with Mumbai’s legendary Dabbawalas (Shut on weekends) who deliver over 2,50,000 boxes of lunch to their rightful owners with military-like precision. We will now arrive at Mumbai’s iconic Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST); this station has a unique place in Indian history. Today, the station is a site for over a million arrivals and departures each day.
We next move to the Dhobhi Ghat where the laundrymen, more popularly known as the Dhobhis, wash the clothes of Mumbai’s citizenry. With nearly most of Mumbai’s washing done here, it comes as a little surprise that these guys can be safely christened as the ‘Washing Machines’ of Mumbai. Mani Bhavan our next stop served as Mahatma Gandhi’s Bombay headquarters for about 17 long and eventful years (1917-1934). It was from Mani Bhavan that Gandhi initiated Civil Disobedience, Satyagraha, Swadeshi, Khadi and Khilafat movements.
