Mughal Miniature Motif Workshop

Miniature painting made its entry in the northern Indian subcontinent in the 16th century and continued till the mid–nineteenth century. The art form reached its zenith under the patronage of the Mughal emperors, whose ateliers were always abuzz with fresh commissions rendered by masters of the craft and their minions of both Indian and Iranian origins; it also inspired and gave birth to subsequent schools and styles of Indian painting under the rulers of various maharajahs in their states. The peak of Mughal painting showcased a highly sophisticated fusion of the Islamic, Hindu and European visual culture and aesthetics.
