Peel away layer upon layers and savour the piquant flavours of its peripatetic history of Delhi. That means there are going to be lots of things to do in Delhi if you want to unveil it's over 3000-year-old timelines. The city's past marches hand in hand with its present, presenting a fabulous mosaic of richness and diversity which will bring you back to discover more and more things to do in Delhi on each return to this 'Eternal City.

Mehrauli Archeological Maze

Located in the outskirts of South Delhi, the Mehrauli Park offers visitors a bunch of things to do to unearth significant cultural, religious, and political chapters from Delhi's colourful past. Grab a camera and let the lens do the talking as you wander across the lush environs of Mehrauli Archaeological Park abutting the UNESCO-acclaimed World Heritage Site of the Qutb Minar and its clutch of heritage structures. Sequestered in these serene environs are pages from Delhi's pre-Islamic to the late Mughal and the colonial eras. Then head out for Mehrauli village nearby, probably the oldest continuously inhabited area in Delhi.

Chandni Chowk

While searching for Delhi's quintessential culinary and shopping experiences, wend your way to historic Chandni Chowk. Once a serene boulevard lined with shops and Havelis in Mughal Emperor Shahjehan's new bastion, it's changed quite dramatically since. Delhi, or Shahjehanbad, replaced the old Mughal capital of Agra. The new imperial capital was built in 1648, along the lines of the elegant Persian city of Isfahan. It became the target of many invaders, including Nadir Shah, who took away Shahjehan's famous Peacock Throne and Kohinoor Diamond from his palace in Red Fort. You will adore the things to do in this centrepiece of Shahjehanbad, which is still replete with nuances of its historic past…in the gullies… bazaars…old Havelis… food shops, et al. The Walled City of Delhi will indeed have you aching for more memorable experiences.

Culinary Crosswinds

Delhi today is one of India's leading culinary hubs. All this is driven by its ages-old local food heritage, the cross-cultural influences from centuries of migrants who brought with them their own food ways … and in more recent times, international culinary streams. One of the things to do in Delhi is to prepare an Indian meal from a local host as part of your new learning skills. Sample the street food, from Old Delhi to Mehrauli. Pop into leisurely meals curated from traditions from all over the world in high-end restaurants for a bit of fine dining in Delhi.

Delhi is studded with monuments, architectural marvels, bazaars, craft centres and cultural hubs documenting its amazing odyssey. Soak it all in as you plan your next visit and the things to do in Delhi.
